Jump start your labor cookies June 19, 2011

So I’m due tomorrow and I have tried everything to get labor going. So far nothing :( . After scouring the web for any obscure methods I may not have tried yet, I came across this recipe for “jump start your labor cookies”. It looks like an extra spicy ginger snap and everything I’ve read has said that they taste good if you like ginger snaps, which I happen to love ginger snaps. I’ve read quite a few websites about these cookies because I am not willing to do anything that I’m not 100% sure is going to be harmless and is just all in good fun.  And if I’m understanding things correctly the “science” behind the cookies is A) the spiciness and B) the high amount of gluten ( the directions for the cookies are to eat as many as you possibly can, then take a nap and wait for labor to start). Sounds pretty simple and like nothing that could cause any harm. So in the name of desperation and just generally being sick of being pregnant I’m going to try making these cookies, now I just have to convince Jim to get off his butt and take me to the store to get the ingredients!

2 1/2 c. flour
1 1/2 t. baking soda
3/4 t. cinnamon
1 t. ground ginger
1/2 t. ground cloves
1/2 t. salt
1/2 t. cayenne pepper
8 T. butter
1/2 c. sugar
1 c. brown sugar
1/3 c. molasses
1/4 c. egg whites

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine flour, baking soda and spices and set aside. Cream the butter and sugars together. Add the molasses to the creamed butter, then add the egg whites until combined. Addd the dry ingredients slowly. Once incorporated, roll dough into 1 inch balls and place onto baking tray. Bake 8-10 minutes. Once cool eat as many as you can possibly stomach, lay down for a nap and wait for labor to begin!

****Side note, if you halve the cayenne pepper and roll the balls in sugar before baking these make very yummy holiday cookies****

So my sister Aubrey bought us this AMAZING thermometer.  And let me tell you I have had more fun playing with this than I have had playing with our Xbox 360 lol.  This is seriously the Cadillac of thermometers, it can be used as either temporal or in the ear, it has a flash light, it tells you the time/date/the temperature of the room it is in, it gets an accurate reading in less than a second, it has a memory recall of the past 30 temperatures you took along with the date and time you took them! It also talks if you want it too and shows either a smiley face or a frowny face based on whether or not you have a fever.  I never thought I would get this excited over a thermometer but I have to admit, I am in love! Another thing I love about it is the fact that it takes AAA batteries and not some crazy special order watch battery.  Jim and I spent close to an hour playing with this when we got it in the mail, both taking and retaking our temperature on our foreheads and in our ears.  It really is the little things in life :)

I finally did it :D May 23, 2011

So I have finally gotten around to setting up a blog, it only took me a little over a year of saying I’d do it for it to actually get done! But as I get closer and closer to my due date I realize just how important it is to be able to keep everyone updated. I’ve been slowly drifting away from Facebook during my pregnancy, which has been noted by a few of you with your “did you die/fall of the face of the planet/don’t love me enough to talk to me” posts on my wall. I assure you I am not dead nor have I fallen off the face of the planet, and as for loving you all enough to talk to you ehh that’s neither here nor there…I kid I kid lighten up!

So I am now 36 weeks, here is my most recent belly pic (taken about 5 mins ago lol)

please excuse the streaks on the mirror, I didn't see them until I had the picture uploaded!

I have quite the squirmy baby in there, the doctor told me today that his head is really low and in a good position, they are estimating him as currently being right around 5 lbs. I am very ready to finally be done being pregnant, but I’ll let him cook for a little longer :) it’s my opinion that babies know best when they are ready to be born so I’ve already told my doctor that unless it is absolutely 100% medically necissary I refuse to be induced.  After being in the hospital Monday morning because of a tummy bug I am doing much better and have made a full recovery! I have finished the nursery and I think it is soooooo adorable!

Well that’s all the baby updates I have for now, now it’s time to move on to Jim and I!  I’ve been busy busy making sure everything is ready for the babies arrival my nesting instinct is very strong so I have been very crafty lately as well as feeling the need to reorganize everything and make sure our house is spotless. I’ll post a photo tour of our hose in a separate post for those of you who want to see it, I absolutely love our house and it will be the only thing I miss when we finally get out of El Paso. I painted and decorated the mirror and the name on the walls in the pictures, I also spent two days painstakingly hand sewing changing table pad sheets because I couldn’t find any that A) were the right size and B) had a place for the safety straps to come through the sheet. Jim is still just working away everyday doing the MP thing haha. We are both really looking forward to being able to take a vacation in July when we head back to WI to introduce everyone to little Noah. We have also decided to become more self sufficient and reduce our carbon footprint by making as much stuff for ourselves as we can, which includes furniture. I have stumbled across an amazing blog for the do-it-yourselfer and will be trying out some of these projects as soon as we both have the spare time/money to buy the materials. For those of you interested this is the blog www.ana-white.com. In case you can’t tell I’m having way too much fun with this whole blogging thing, and if you made it this far without slipping into a boredom induced coma I am impressed, thanks for sticking with me as I rambled on and on. See you next time!
